July 28, 2015 Announcement of 2015 Report on Current Status of Information and Communications (2015 White Paper on Information and Communications in Japan)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today announced the release of a report on the current status of information and communications ( 2015 White Paper on Information and Communications in Japan).

MIC has been publishing a report on the current status of information and communications (White Paper on Information and Communications in Japan) annually for the purpose of deepening the understanding of people to the current status of information and communications along with the trends of information and communications policies in Japan. This is the 43rd report that has been issued since MIC released the first report in 1973. The White Paper features “Past, Present, and Future of ICT” as its theme, and reviews the development of the information and communications technology (ICT) industry and the progress of the utilization and application of ICT in Japan in chronological order from the past to the present and to the future, beginning with Japan’s Telecommunications liberalization in 1985. Furthermore, the White Paper outlooks a medium- to long-term vision of the future toward the implementation of ICT in entire society from three viewpoints, i.e., the viewpoints of regions, living, and industry, with consideration of the contemporary trends of technology, including the progress of the active use of big data and the Internet of Things (IoT).
