September 17, 2015 Results of Talks between Minister Takaichi for Internal Affairs and Communications and Minister of Communication and Informatics Republic of Indonesia

Ms. Sanae Takaichi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications held talks today with H.E. Mr. Rudiantara, Minister of Communication and Informatics of Indonesia, who was visiting Japan, and confirmed the further promotion of cooperation between Japan and Indonesia in the ICT field. Following the talks, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and cooperation packages for cooperation in the information and communications field.

Ministers’ Talks

Ms. Sanae Takaichi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications held talks with H.E. Mr. Rudiantara, Minister of Communication and Informatics of Indonesia, and confirmed the further promotion of cooperation between both countries in the ICT field. The cooperation includes the bridging of the digital divide, disaster prevention ICT, e-government, broadcasting, cyber security, new technologies and services, such as 5G and radio wave surveillance, and postal services.

Signing ceremony for MOU, etc.

Following the talks, the following signing ceremonies were held. (1) MOU for cooperation in the information and communications field: MIC and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of Indonesia signed the MOU for cooperation activities, including medium-term (five-year) cooperation in the information and communications filed for the further reinforcement of cooperation in the field. (2) Cooperation packages in the information and communications field: In accordance with the above MOU, MIC and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics reached an agreement on joint projects to promote the solution of social issues and activate the economic activities of Japan and Indonesia within a short term (approximately two years), and signed cooperation packages of the projects. • Project on public broadcasting entities • Project on digital divide bridging • Project on disaster ICT • Project on E-government promotion • Project on the reinforcement of cooperation in the information security field
