October 28, 2016 Holding APECTEL 54 (54th APEC Telecommunication and Information Working Group Meeting) in Japan

APECTEL 54 (the 54th APEC Telecommunication and Information Working Group Meeting) will be held at Keihanna Plaza in Kyoto Prefecture from October 31 through November 4, 2016. This will be the first APECTEL in eight years since APECTEL37 was held in March 2008.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold a number of events, such as roundtables for the free circulation of information and on silver ICT toward the forthcoming silver ICT and workshops, including that on cyber security. These programs aim for the promotion of initiatives based on the APEC TEL Strategic Action Plan 2016-2020, which was adopted at the 10th APEC Ministerial Meeting on the Telecommunications and Information Industry (TELMIN10) on March 30 and 31 last year. Furthermore, these programs have been planned from the perspective of developing the outcome of the G7 ICT Ministers’ Meeting at Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture in April of this year.
In addition, MIC is planning to invite participants from each country and overseas region to visit sightseeing spots, including world heritage sites, and the world’s most advanced research facilities in the ICT field from the viewpoint of disseminating Japan’s appeal to the world.
