April 20, 2016 Release of Everyone’s Public Website Operational Guidelines (2016) and miChecker Ver. 2.0 (Accessibility Assessment Tool)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has released Everyone’s Public Website Operational Guidelines (2016) for public institutions’ procedure for website accessibility improvements and maintenance, along with the miChecker (ver. 2.0) accessibility assessment tool to evaluate the accessibility of websites.

MIC opens a model for everyone’s public website operation and the miChecker accessibility assessment tool to the public in order to enable all people, including elderly people and disabled people, can utilize websites of the government, local governments, and other public institutions with ease.
MIC has recently revised and updated the model and the miChecker, with consideration of the enforcement of the Act for Eliminating Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Act No. 65 of 2013) and the revision of Japanese Industrial Standard JISX8341-3 (Guidelines for older persons and persons with disabilities - Information and communications equipment, software and services - Part 3: Web content). With the revision of the model, the title of the model has been revised to Everyone’s Public Website Operational Guidelines.
