June 22, 2016 Request to Broadcasters Concerning Broadcasting of Probable Candidates for 24th House of Councilors Election

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has requested the Broadcasters regarding the broadcasting of probable candidates for the 24th House of Councilors election made public today.

1.Targets

Requests have today been sent out in writing from the Director-General for Information and Communications Bureau to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association, Japan Satellite Broadcasting Association, Japan Community Broadcasting Association, Japan Cable and Telecommunication Association, private basic broadcasters (excluding broadcasters that only conducts character multiplex broadcasting and broadcasters as members of the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association, Japan Satellite Broadcasting Association, or Japan Community Broadcasting Association), satellite general broadcasters (excluding broadcasters as members of the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association or Japan Satellite Broadcasting Association), and the cable-registered general broadcasters that conduct autonomous broadcasting (excluding operators as members of the Japan Cable and Telecommunication).

2.Content of the request

National elections are a matter of concern for all people, and broadcasting concerning election results can have a considerable impact on those involved. Therefore, MIC is requesting that thorough care should be taken, in accordance with ideas in the Broadcast Act, thereby increasing all people’s trust in broadcasting.
