December 26, 2017 Reinforcement of Driving Force of Learning Consortium for the Future

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), in collaboration with school officials and educational and IT-related enterprises and ventures, jointly established the Learning Consortium for the Future in order to promote programming education at school.
Programming education will become a compulsory subject at elementary school in fiscal 2020. Accordingly, MIC, MEXT, and METI have decided to jointly establish the Project Promotion Headquarters of the Future Learning Consortium in MEXT and the Project Promotion Team of the Future Learning Consortium under the Headquarters so that the Consortium can focus more on the smooth implementation of programming education and that MEXT in cooperation with MIC and METI can take the initiative in accelerating the efforts of the Consortium with the participation of related industries.
