September 26, 2017 Results of G7 ICT and Industry Ministerial Meeting

The G7 ICT and Industry Ministerial Meeting was held in Turin, Italy, on September 25 and 26, to which the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications dispatched Shinsuke Okuno, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications. This meeting took over the discussion at the G7 ICT Ministers’ Meeting in Takamatsu, Kagawa, in April last year, where Japan assumed the presidency. The leaders of the G7 countries held a deepened ministerial-level discussion over social and economic transformation accompanying the spread of new digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) IoT focused on the progress of the Next Production Revolution through industrial digitalization, and summarized the results into a ministerial declaration. At the same time, the leaders agreed to further deepen related discussions at next G7 ICT and Industry Ministerial Meeting, which Canada will assume the presidency. Also, taking the opportunity to attend the meeting, State Minister Okuno exchanged opinions with the leaders of Italy as the host country and the European Commission.
