March 1, 2018 Approval to Abolish Some Satellite Broadcasting Operations of Open University of Japan

The Foundation for the Open University of Japan (chaired by Setsuo Arikawa) plans to terminate its terrestrial basic broadcasting on October 30, 2018, centralize its broadcasting operations in satellite broadcasting, and review the organization of satellite basic broadcasts.
In this connection, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted today an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (chaired by Susumu Yoshida, Specially Appointed Professor, Kyoto University) concerning approval to an application of the Foundation for the Open University of Japan to abolish its specific terrestrial broadcasting stations under Paragraph 1, Article 89 of the Broadcast Act (Act No. 132 of 1950). MIC received by return a report from the Radio Regulatory Council stating the appropriateness of the approval as inquired.
Accordingly, MIC has decided to approve the abolition of the part of the terrestrial basic broadcasting of the Foundation for the Open University of Japan today.
