March 29, 2018 Results of G7 Innovation Ministerial Meeting

The G7 Innovation Ministerial Meeting was held in Montreal, Canada, on March 27 and 28, 2018, and Masahiko Tominaga, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination (International Affairs) of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and Masaki Ogushi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry attended from Japan.
Discussions on digital economy and innovation have been continuously carried out in the framework of the G7 since the meeting of the G-7 Ministerial Conference on Information and Communications Technology was hosted by Japan in Takamatsu, Kagawa, in April 2016. The G7 Ministers of Labour and Employment Meeting was held concurrently, in which Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan participated. The G7 Innovation Ministerial Meeting in collaboration with the G7 Ministers of Labour and Employment Meeting had deepened discussions about the impact of new innovations, such as the IoT, big data, AI on society, economy, and the labor market under the theme of Preparing for Jobs of the Future. The results of the discussions were summarized in the form of the chair’s summary, including G7 Innovation Ministers’ Statement on Artificial Intelligence and G7 Innovation Ministers’ Statement on Stimulating Innovation as annexes.
Taking the opportunity to attend the meeting, Masahiko Tominaga, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination (International Affairs) of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, exchanged views with officials of the European Commission and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
