December 17, 2019 Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation in the Information and Communications Field with the Republic of Uzbekistan
Sanae Takaichi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, has signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of information and communications with the Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan (hereinafter referred to as “Uzbekistan”).
1. Background of Signing the Memorandum
Japan and Uzbekistan have been discussing the Memorandum of Cooperation in the information and telecommunications field in conjunction with the visit of H.E. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan in December this year.
The two countries have agreed to cooperate in the areas specified below, and Sanae Takaichi, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and H.E. Sadikov Shukhrat Muhamadjanovich, Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications, have signed a memorandum of cooperation.

3. Future Plans
Prior to signing this memorandum, three Japanese companies (Internet Initiative Japan Inc., Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and NEC Corporation) each signed a memorandum of cooperation on the development of ICT infrastructure with Uzbek Telecom, a state-owned telecommunications company.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will continue cooperating with these private sector initiatives, working together with the public and private sectors, deepening cooperative relations with Uzbekistan in the information and communications field, and promoting the overseas development of ICT infrastructure.
