December 17, 2019 Study Subcommittee on Utilization Measures for Broadcast Frequencies

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has decided to make an appeal for opinions from Wednesday, December 18 through Friday, January 17, 2020, on a basic policy on utilization measures for broadcast frequencies drafted by a study subcommittee on utilization measures for broadcast frequencies (chaired by Susumu Ito, part-time professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Information Engineering,Faculty of Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science).

1. Background

From the viewpoint of the effective use of frequencies allocated for broadcasting, MIC has been holding meetings of a study subcommittee on utilization measures under a study group on various issues over broadcasting (chaired by Kazuteru Tagaya, Professor Emeritus at Chiba University) to examine various utilization measures, including those for the previous terrestrial broadcasting site of the Open University of Japan and the V-High band.
Recently, the study subcommittee drafted a basic policy on utilization measures for broadcast frequencies, and MIC has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft.

3. Future plans

MIC will use the submitted opinions for future discussions. Furthermore, MIC will open the opinions to the public after the application period.
