Institutional Development for Introduction of Local 5G Systems

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) drafted guidelines for the introduction of the local fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G) that various entities can construct and use flexibly according to the local needs and a variety of individual industrial needs and received 34 opinions. These opinions and the MIC’s views thereon are announced here, along with the Guidelines for Local 5G Implementation, which MIC formulated with consideration of the results of the opinions submitted.

1. Background of appeal for opinions

MIC made an appeal for opinions from Saturday, September 28 through Monday, October 28, 2019, on draft ministerial ordinances, notices, etc. on partial revisions to the Regulations for Enforcement of the Radio Act, along with the draft guidelines for local 5G implementation for the necessary institutional development to enable various entities to construct and use 5G flexibly according to the local needs and a variety of individual industrial needs.

2. Future plan

MIC will issue and enforce relevant ministerial ordinances and notices on Tuesday, December 24, 2019, and start accepting applications for local 5G wireless station licenses.
