December 24, 2019 Technical Requirements for Safety and Reliability of Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting―Partial Report from Information and Communications Council

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today received a partial report from the Department on Information and Communications Technology (chaired by Shojiro Nishio, President of Osaka University) concerning technical requirements for the safety and reliability of digital terrestrial television broadcasting as part of technical requirements for the safety and reliability of broadcasting (Inquiry No. 2031) dated December 21, 2010.

1. Overview

In recent years, cybersecurity threats have diversified, and damage form them has become more serious. In anticipation of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, it is necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of broadcasting equipment and adequately fulfill the public role of broadcasting.
Given these circumstances, the Broadcasting System Subcommittee under the Department of Information and Communications Technology of the Information and Communications Council started studying technical requirements for the safety and reliability of digital terrestrial television broadcasting as part of technical requirements for the safety and reliability of broadcasting in July 2019 and compiled a report in December 2019.
The said report was deliberated by the Department of Information and Communications Technology of the Information and Communications Council, and MIC received the partial report today from the Department on Information and Communications Technology.

2. Future plan

With consideration of the partial report, the MIC will prepare relevant rules.
