December 26, 2019 Appeal for Opinions on Draft of Final Report of Study Group on Competitive Environment of Mobile Market

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has decided to make an appeal for opinions from Friday, December 27, 2019, through Friday, January 24, 2020, on a draft final report compiled by a study group on the competitive environment of the mobile market (chaired by Ikufumi Niimi, Professor Emeritus at Meiji University).

1. Background

The study group has been researching from the viewpoint of users since October 2018 to study measures to promote further fair competition between business operators in light of the changing environment surrounding information and communications and creating an environment where users can use various services at low rates.
Even after compiling the interim report in April 2019, the study group continued discussing matters related to user fees and other provision conditions and competition conditions between business operators through interviews with related parties.
Recently, with consideration of the discussions so far, a draft final report was compiled, and MIC has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft.

The study group will finalize the report with consideration of the result of the opinions.
