February 8, 2019 Report from Radio Regulatory Council on Authorization for Change in the NHK Broadcasting Reception Rules

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today submitted an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chaired by Susumu Yoshida, Specially Appointed Professor, Kyoto University) concerning authorization for a change in the NHK Broadcasting Reception Rules applied by Japan Broadcasting Corporation, also known as NHK (President: Ryoichi Ueda) based on the provision of Article 64, Paragraph 3 of the Broadcast Act (Act No. 132 of 1950), and has received a report from the Council by return stating the appropriateness of the change as inquired.
The MIC’s final authorization for the change will be subject to approval from the Diet for the fiscal 2019 income and expenditure budget, business planning, and financial planning of NHK.
