May 17, 2019 Cable TV Delivers Imminent River Information During Floods

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Japan Cable and Telecommunications Association to conclude an agreement on May 21

With consideration of the heavy rain in July 2018, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Japan Cable and Telecommunications Association have decided to conclude an agreement* to provide the public with video information on rivers and dams in real time during floods, along with river data, including water level and rainfall data through cable TV.

* Agreement on Providing of River Information and Picture Information
In accordance with this agreement, 18 member operators of the Japan Cable and Telecommunications Association will set up the Regional Disaster Prevention Collaboration Channel as a social experiment model, and use the media characteristics of regional adherence and deliver imminent video information and river data at the time of flooding, thus leading to the accurate evacuation action of inhabitants.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will cooperate in advancing the promotion of the Regional Disaster Prevention Collaboration Channel.
