January 14, 2020 Holding 5G International Symposium 2020

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) is implementing 5G comprehensive demonstration tests that involve stakeholders in various utilization fields towards the creation of a new market through the realization of 5G.
To announce the results of 5G comprehensive demonstration tests of this fiscal year both in Japan and abroad, MIC has decided to hold the 5G International Symposium 2020.

1. Background and purpose

The fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G) is a next-generation mobile communication system with versatile features, including ultra-high speed and large capacity, ultra-low latency, and multiple-simultaneous connections.

MIC has been conducting 5G comprehensive verification tests since fiscal 2017 with the participation of stakeholders from various fields of utilization to create a new market by realizing 5G.

With consideration of the results so far and the results of the 5G utilization idea contest held in January 2019, MIC conducted a 5G comprehensive demonstration test focusing on a utilization model that contributes to solving 5G regional issues for this fiscal year.

In this connection, MIC will host the 5G International Symposium 2020―Creating the Future with 5G to announce the results of this year’s 5G comprehensive demonstration test widely in Japan and overseas and exchange the latest information and opinions on 5G.
