January 28, 2020 Announcement of Urgent Recommendation on Japan’s Cybersecurity in Japan

The Cybersecurity Task Force, a study group of the Director-General for Cybersecuriy of Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), has compiled urgent recommendations to be addressed promptly to strengthen Japan’s cybersecurity.

The IoT/AI era, where everything is connected to networks, including the Internet, has arrived, and cybersecurity is a very important issue from the perspective of ensuring safe and secure public life, as well as maintaining social and economic activities. Therefore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications organized the Cybersecurity Task Force (currently chaired by Atsuhiro Goto, President, Institute of Information Security) in January 2017. The study group has been discussing policy measures necessary to ensure cybersecurity.

The MIC announces here that, in light of the previous discussions, the Cybersecurity Task Force determined policy measures for addressing urgent cybersecurity issues, in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in July this year.
