5G International Workshop and INDICO Workshop

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold the 5G international workshop and the INDICO workshop at the CEATEC 2020 ONLINE Conference as part of MIC’s efforts to popularize and deploy the fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G).

1. Background and purpose

Commercial services of 5G, a new mobile communications system with versatile features (e.g., ultra-high-speed, large capacity, ultra-low latency, and multiple-simultaneous connections), started in Japan in March 2020. Before that, Japan made institutional development necessary for Local 5G in December 2019.
MIC will hold the 5G international workshop and the INDICO workshop at the CEATEC 2020 ONLINE Conference on Wednesday, October 21, as part of MIC’s efforts to popularize and deploy 5G to exchange the latest information and views on 5G between experts from domestic and overseas 5G-related companies, promotion organizations, and governments.

The event will include a panel discussion on the introduction efforts and prospects of Local 5G, which is expected to be used industrially as a private network and solve problems in the region.

INDICO Workshop―Japan-EU Cooperation on 5G and Beyond

Overview

The INDICO (International Digital Cooperation - ICT Standardization) project is an international collaboration project on the international standardization of the European Commission. This workshop will be held in linking with the INDICO project, considering the results of the Japan-EU ICT Strategy Workshop and the Japan-EU ICT policy dialogue. The Japan-EU ICT Strategy Workshop is an opportunity for the public and private sectors to discuss important issues in the digital economy and exchange opinions. The Japan-EU ICT policy dialogue is an opportunity regularly held by MIC and the European Commission (Directorate-General of Communications Networks, Content and Technology) to discuss general ICT policies.
This workshop will pave a path for the cooperation of Japan and the EU on 5G and Beyond 5G standardization issues.
