November 6, 2020 Public Appeal for Candidate Recipients of Cybersecurity Encouragement Prizes of Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications

Since fiscal 2017, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has been commending individuals and organizations making outstanding achievements in cybersecurity responding sites with Cybersecurity Encouragement Prizes of Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications. MIC has started a public appeal for candidate recipients for this fiscal year.

1. Purpose

In recent years, while the integration of cyberspace and real space has brought affluence to society, the risk of malicious actors using cyberspace has also increased. Ensuring cybersecurity is a crucial issue from the perspective of safe and secure people’s lives and the healthy development of socio-economic activities.
Therefore, since fiscal 2017, MIC has been commending individuals or groups (teams) who have made outstanding achievements in cybersecurity support and are expected to continue to play an active role in the future with Cybersecurity Encouragement Prizes of Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications. The purpose is to raise awareness of cybersecurity in Japan and ensure cybersecurity by making it widely known.

2. Appeal for candidate recipients

MIC has decided to make an appeal by self-recommendation or other recommendations for individuals or groups (teams) who have made excellent achievements from the viewpoint of improving cybersecurity in the field of cybersecurity support and are expected to be more active in the future.

3. Application and recommendation method and recruitment period

The application period is from Friday, November 6 through Friday, December 4, 2020.

4. Examination

MIC will organize a selection committee consisting of experts. MIC will select recipients (up to three people) after deliberation by the selection committee and considering the results of this public appeal and the recommendation of the selection committee.

5. Announcement of examination results

MIC will open the results to the public on its website around February 2021.

6. Commendation

Awards will be given during the Cybersecurity Month campaign from Monday, February 1 through Thursday, March 18, 2020.
