December 4, 2020 Two Ministers’ Meeting for Reducing of Mobile Phone Charges

A meeting of two ministers will be held shortly. This meeting aims to reduce mobile phone charges and strongly promote efforts for the sound development of the mobile market through the cooperation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC), and the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA).

1. Purpose

While mobile phones have become people’s daily necessities, mobile phone charges account for about 4% of the household budget. The impact of mobile phone charges on people’s lives is also significant.
Recently, MIC, JFTC, and CAA have cooperated to improve the environment for reducing mobile phone charges. Accordingly, the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications and the Minister of State for Special Missions of the Cabinet Office will hold the two Ministers’ meeting to reduce mobile phone charges to strongly promote efforts for the sound development of the mobile market.

4. Schedule

The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, followed by subsequent meetings sequentially.
