December 8, 2020 Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Disruptive Innovation with the Republic of Indonesia

TAKEDA Ryota, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (hereafter referred to as “Indonesia”) in disruptive innovation.

1. Background of memorandum

The memorandum of cooperation was signed to support human resources who can work together to bring about disruptive innovation concerning the Innovation Program(*1) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of Japan and the Kampus Merdeka (open campus) Program(*2) of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia.

    Innovation Program: A program that supports fantastic and ambitious challenging initiatives with great potential and their global expansion in the field of ICT.

    Kampus Merdeka Program: A general term for reforms in the field of higher education.

2. Areas of cooperation

  • 1.
    Creation of an innovation ecosystem through the coordination of the Innovation Program and the Campus Merdeka Program
  • 2.
    Promotion of the collaboration of universities, local governments, private companies, etc.
  • 3.
    Reinforcement of exchange programs for human resource development
  • 4.
    Resolution of ICT industry issues by promoting internship programs
  • 5.
    Establishment of the Innovation Secretariat of Indonesia in the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia

3. Future plans

Under this memorandum, MIC will cooperate with related organizations and promote cooperation with the Indonesian side in disruptive innovation.
