December 25, 2020 Publication of the First summary of the Study Group on Smartphones with Individual Number Card Functionality

The Study Group on Smartphones with Individual Number Card Functionality is an initiative by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) to consider individual Number Card (INC) functionality on smartphones in order to improve the performance of INCs, which are indispensable for digital society.
The study group recently issued its report entitled First Summary-Toward the Realization of Electronic Certificates for Smartphones. Accordingly, MIC will release this report to the public.

1. Overview

The MIC’s Study Group on Smartphones with Individual Number Card Functionality has been meeting since November 2020. Recently, the study group compiled a report based on the results of their investigations so far into the potential use of electronic certificates installed on smartphones. Accordingly, MIC has decided to release this report to the public.
