The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has decided to conduct fiscal 2020 development demonstrations for realizing local 5G services to solve local issues, which will involve the use of local 5G services of various entities, including local companies.
In this connection, MIC has decided to make an appeal for a wide range of opinions from Thursday, February 6 through Friday, March 6, 2020, to make specific studies before addressing regional issues in this demonstration project, technical issues to be examined, and examination methods.

1. Purpose

MIC is promoting initiatives to introduce the 5th generation mobile communication system (local 5G) that can be flexibly constructed and used by various entities according to local needs and individual needs in various industrial fields.

In the demonstrations, a local problem-solving model that utilizes local 5G will be built to implement technical studies on local 5G radio wave propagation in practical cases that assume various installation locations of local 5G base stations and use environments and to realize regional issues using local 5G.
Before this, MIC will make an appeal for proposals on regional issues to be addressed, technical issues to be considered, and methods for studying them in fiscal 2020 development demonstrations for realizing local 5G services to solve local issues.
This appeal is not for demonstration projects. Furthermore, the results of the appeal for proposals will not affect the selection of demonstration projects. For the public appeal for demonstration projects, check MIC’s future procurement information.

2. Submission deadline

No later than noon on Friday, March 6, 2020.
