February 13, 2020 International Forum on AI Economic Society (International Symposium)

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold the International Forum on AI Economic Society (International Symposium) at the Mita Kaigisho on Thursday, March 12, 2020.

1. Overview

In line with the recommendations made at the G20 Trade and Digital Economy Ministers’ Meeting in June 2019, MIC is aiming to realize an inclusive AI economic society. Therefore, various actors will use AI and data, actively participate in social and economic activities, expand each one’s distribution according to his/her contribution, sense of fulfillment, leisure, etc., and gain and share prosperity throughout the society).
In recent years, the data economy, in which information and data are leading society, is about to spread with the advent of the latest information technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), IoT, big data, and a new economy. The emergence of GAFA, a major U.S. company that has rapidly grown with the use of data, is a symbol of the data economy. Innovations from intangible assets are driving productivity gains and creating economic dynamism while inducing new wealth concentrations and even affecting the competitiveness of companies and nations.
The AI Economic Society will invite and discuss prominent experts what kind of economy and society should be pursued in the new global data economy, also called social economy or sharing economy, and what can be expected there.
