March 10, 2020 Result of Appeal for Opinions on the Third Draft Report from IP Network Facilities Subcommittee of the Department on Information and Communications Technology under the Information and Communications Council and Release of Third Report
Technical requirements for telecommunications facilities in response to the spread of IoT as a part of technical requirements for telecommunications facilities corresponding to the switchover of networks to IP
The IP Network Facilities Subcommittee (Chief Investigator: Hitoshi Aida, Professor at Graduate School, University of Tokyo) of the Department on Information and Communications Technology under the Information and Communications Council drafted a tertiary report on technical requirements for telecommunications facilities in response to the spread of IoT. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for opinions on the draft report from Thursday, January 20 through Friday, January 28, 2020. Accordingly, MIC has decided to announce the result of the appeal for opinions and open the third report to the public.
1. Overview
The IP Network Facilities Subcommittee of the Department on Information and Communications Technology under the Information and Communications Council has been studying technical requirements for telecommunications facilities* in response to the spread of IoT. These requirements are part of Inquiry No. 2020 of October 31, 2005, entitled Technical Requirements for Telecommunications Equipment Corresponding to the Switchover of Networks to IP.
The IP Network Facilities Subcommittee drafted a third report summarizing the results of a review from June 2019 through January, and MIC made an appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, January 20 through Friday, February 28. As a result, nine opinions were submitted.
The IP Network Facilities Subcommittee summarized the submitted opinions and the IP Network Facilities Subcommittee’s views on the opinions. With consideration of the result of the appeal for opinions, the third report was finalized.

The results of the study of the Information and Communications Council were reported in its initial report in September 2018 and secondary report in May 2019.
