March 23, 2020 Study Group on the Time Stamp Certification System

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will hold a Study Group on the Time Stamp Certification System, to examine national certification mechanisms for time stamps, an example of a trust service, while taking into account international trends.

1. Purpose

Under the concept of Society 5.0, which features the further integration of cyberspace and real space, the importance of data will be much greater, and the mechanism of trust services which ensure the authenticity and reliability of data will be needed as a foundation to support data distribution.
The Study Group on the Time Stamp Certification System will meet to examine national certification mechanisms for time stamps (a mechanism that enables the confirmation that electronic data existed at a particular time, and has not been tampered with since that time), an example of a trust service, while taking into account international trends.

3. Schedule

The first meeting will be held on Monday, March 30, 2020, and is scheduled to be held thereafter on a regular basis with a report due to be compiled around autumn of this year.
