March 31, 2020 Partial Report from the Information and Communications Council on Technical Requirements Pertaining to Telecommunications Equipment Corresponding to the Spread of IoT

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has today received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council (Chaired by Takeshi Uchiyamada, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Toyota Motor Corporation). The report, which specifies technical requirements pertaining to telecommunications equipment corresponding to the spread of IoT, was issued in partial response to inquiry number 2020 about the technical requirements of telecommunications equipment corresponding to the switchover of networks to IP (October 31, 2005).

1. Background

The Information and Communications Council, in consideration for the development in recent years of advances in communication networks accompanying the spread of IoT, and its diversifying use, has been studying the technical requirements pertaining to telecommunications equipment, as part of technical requirements of telecommunications equipment corresponding to the switchover of networks to IP, since November 2017^*.
With respect to the IP Network Equipment Subcommittee in the Department on Information and Communications Technology, Information and Communications Council, and its approach to technical standards corresponding to the progress of the full-scale software and virtualization of communication networks, the details of the third report summarizing the results of the study from June 2019 to March 2020 were considered by the Department on Information and Communications Technology, and today they received a partial report from the Information and Communications Council.

  Two reports summarizing the study until now of the IP Network Equipment Subcommittee of the Department on Information and Communications Technology, Information and Communications Council, have been received from the Information and Communications Council. A first report in September 2018, and a second report in May 2019.

With consideration of this partial report, MIC will promptly carry out system upgrades.
