April 27, 2020 Unified QR Code, “JPQR“ Promotion Project―Starting Shipment of JPQR Start Kit

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) plans to launch an online application form in the middle of June, which will enable JPQR applications from stores nationwide for the Unified QR Code, “JPQR” Promotion Project. In this connection, MIC has started shipping the JPQR start kit to stores which applied for JPQR in a trial application campaign.

MIC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), has conducted this demonstration project to promote Unified QR Code and Barcode (JPQR) which was formulated by Payments Japan Association.
MIC plans to launch this online application form (PLUG) for the current fiscal year in mid-June that will enable JPQR applications from stores nationwide.
Before this, MIC started conducting a trial application campaign in each area on an application basis and has started shipping the JPQR start kit to the stores which applied for JPQR in the trial application campaign. JPQR will also be available at stores in Central Government Building No. 2, where MIC is located. Furthermore, the JPQR printing and shipping system (DOCK) built by Payments Japan Association has come into operation.

MIC is still accepting the participation of cashless payment companies, and the status of participants will be updated as needed.
In the current fiscal year, measures to revitalize consumption will be implemented using the Individual Number Card point system. By promoting JPQR, MIC is planning to increase stores where the Individual Number Card point can be used.
