April 28, 2020 Appeal for Opinions on Draft Revision to Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment

Institutional Development for Advanced VHF Band Subscriber Wireless Systems

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) drafted a revision to the Ministerial Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment.
Accordingly, MIC will make an appeal for opinions on the revision from Wednesday (national holiday), April 29 through Tuesday, June 6, 2020.

1. Background

Current VHF band subscriber wireless systems are effectively used for the provision of subscriber services, etc. in areas where it is difficult to lay down cabling and facilities, and in rural areas that are outside of mobile phone service provider areas. Meanwhile, current systems utilize analog wireless methods, and there is a need to advance the system, for example digitization, from the viewpoint of efficient frequency utilization.
Taking into account this need, the Information and Communications Council started studying the technical requirements for advanced VHF band subscriber wireless systems in September 2019, and MIC received a partial report from the council on March 31, 2020.
In consideration of the above, MIC drafted a revision to the Ministerial Ordinance Regulating Radio Equipment. Accordingly, MIC decided to make this appeal for opinions on the revision to advance VHF band subscriber wireless systems.
