May 22, 2020 Release of Progress Report 2020 on IoT/5G Security Comprehensive Measures

  A study group named Cybersecurity Task Force, which was organized in January 2017 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), established “IoT/5G Security Comprehensive Measures” in August 2019. Since then, the Cybersecurity Task Force has been discussing on the measures necessary to ensure cybersecurity.
  Recently, the Cybersecurity Task Force compiled a report entitled “Progress Report 2020 on IoT/5G Security Comprehensive Measures” on its progress and future activities, and MIC has decided to open it to the public.

1. Overview

The IoT/AI era, where everything is connected to networks, including the Internet, has arrived, and cybersecurity is essential from the perspective of ensuring safe and secure public life, as well as maintaining social and economic activities. Consequently, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications organized the Cybersecurity Task Force (currently chaired by Atsuhiro Goto, President, Institute of Information Security) in January 2017. The study group has been discussing on policy measures necessary to ensure cybersecurity.
“Progress Report 2020 on IoT/5G Security Comprehensive Measures” summarizes the progress and future efforts of “IoT/5G Security Comprehensive Measures” formulated and announced by the Cybersecurity Task Force in August 2019.

2. Future plans

With consideration of this report, MIC will continue promoting necessary measures for ensuring IoT/5G security while cooperating with related ministries and agencies.
