June 5, 2020 Decision on Candidate Contractors for Proposals for Establishment of Safe, Secure, and Proper Usage Environment of IoT (Establishment of Guidelines to Contribute to Proper Operation and Maintenance of IoT Usage Environment) under FY2020 Budget

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made a public appeal for proposals for the establishment of a safe, secure, and proper usage environment of the IoT (establishment of guidelines to contribute to the proper operation and maintenance of an IoT usage environment) under the fiscal 2020 budget. MIC received a number of proposals, had them evaluated externally, and selected several candidate contractors with consideration of the external evaluation.

1. Project overview

This project aims to improve users’ literacy regarding the efficient use of radio waves and contribute to the realization of Society 5.0. Therefore, the project clarifies the characteristics of radio waves used for IoT systems according to each scene through field demonstrations using IoT systems in various applications and environments. Furthermore, the project gathers knowledge on the effective use of radio waves that contributes to the proper operation and maintenance of IoT usage environments.
Specifically, it is an IoT system demonstration project conducted by local leaders, such as local governments, private companies, universities, and NPOs. The project will contribute to gathering information, including that on appropriate radio field intensity, system maintenance methods, and costs, as well as data on constructing radio wave environments to ensure efficient use of radio waves for IoT systems in various environments.

2. Content of decision

MIC made a public appeal for proposals from Monday, March 9 through Friday, April 10, 2020, and received 17 proposals.
Recently, MIC decided the four candidate contractors as described below with consideration of the result of the meeting on the establishment of a safe, secure, and proper usage environment of the IoT (establishment of guidelines to contribute to the proper operation and maintenance of an IoT usage environment).
