June 10, 2020 Results of Appeal for Proposals concerning R&D for Expansion of Radio Wave Resources

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made a public appeal from Tuesday, March 24 through Wednesday, April 22, 2020, for proposals concerning research and development (R&D) for an expansion of radio wave resources to be newly implemented from fiscal 2020. MIC received a number of proposals and had them evaluated externally and selected 12 candidate contractors with consideration of the external evaluation.

1. Overview

MIC is implementing R&D for an expansion of radio wave resources to respond to an expansion of new radio wave usage needs and alleviate the situation of frequency tightness and effective use of radio waves. Furthermore, MIC will newly implement R&D for the realization of high-precision radio wave emulator in cyberspace from fiscal 2020.
MIC made the public appeal from Tuesday, March 24 through Wednesday, April 22, 2020, for proposals concerning the R&Ds mentioned above to be newly implemented from fiscal 2020. As a result, MIC received 32 applications from research institutes, including those of private companies, for seven R&D themes.

2. Results of adoption

MIC adopted 12 proposals with consideration of the results of screening at a meeting on evaluations of R&D by radio wave usage fees.
