July 3, 2020 Appeal for Opinions on How to Deal with Libel and Slander on the Internet

The study group on platform services (Joji Shishido Professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate Schools for Law and Politics) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has been discussing how to deal with libel and slander on the Internet. In this connection, MIC will make an appeal for opinions from Saturday, July 4 through Friday, July 24, 2020, on the ideal state of dealing with libel and slander.

The study group on platform services has been discussing how to deal with libel and slander on the Internet. For the reference of the study group, MIC has decided to appeal for a wide range of opinions on the ideal state of dealing with libel and slander.
MIC will post this matter on the public comment page of the e-Gov (https://search.e-gov.go.jp/servlet/Public Open a new window) as well.

3. Submission deadline

No later than Friday, July 24, 2020 (Opinions submitted by mail must also arrive no later than the deadline date).

4. Future plans

With consideration of the result of the appeal for opinions, the study group will deepen their deliberation and make a summarized report.
