July 10, 2020 Authorization of Change to the NHK Broadcasting Reception Rules

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) submitted an inquiry today to the Radio Regulatory Council (Chaired by Susumu Yoshida, Professor Emeritus at Kyoto University) concerning authorization for a change to the NHK Broadcasting Reception Rules (hereafter referred to as “Reception Rules”) applied by NHK (headed by MAEDA Terunobu, President) based on the provision of Article 64, Paragraph 3 of the Broadcast Act (Act No.132 of 1950). A report was received from the Council stating its approval as inquired.
In response to this report, MIC’s will promptly make approval for this matter.

1. Summary of change

To reduce the reception fee, NHK will change the Reception Rules.

2. Time of implementation

This change will come into effect on October 1, 2020.
