July 21, 2020 The Conference toward AI Network Society―Release of 2020 Report

The Institute for Information and Communications Policy (IICP) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) organized the Conference toward AI Network Society (chaired by SUDOH Osamu, Professor at the Faculty of Global Informatics, Chuo University and Project Professor at the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, University of Tokyo) in October 2016. Since then, the Conference has been studying social, economic, ethical, and legal issues related to AI networking. Recently, the Conference issued 2020 Report, and MIC has decided to open it to the public accordingly.

1. Background

MIC’s IICP has been holding the Conference toward AI Network Society since October 2016 with the participation of experts from industry, academia, and citizens to comprehensively examine social, economic, ethical, and legal issues for promoting AI networking in society as a whole. In August 2019, the Conference released 2019 Report, which included AI Utilization Guidelines―Practical Reference for AI Utilization.
Since then, the Conference has endeavored to disseminate the Guidelines with relevant information and exchanging opinions with various stakeholders on the social implementation of safe, secure, and reliable AI based on the content of the report. With consideration of these exchanges of opinions, the Chair of the Conference has been conducting hearings from people who are enthusiastic about the safe, secure, and reliable implementation of AI in society.
Based on these hearings, the Conference recently completed 2020 Report, and MIC has decided to open it to the public.
The Conference will continue making efforts toward the safe, secure, and reliable implementation of AI in society.
