July 21, 2020 The Conference toward AI Network Society―Release of the Committee on AI Economy 2020 Report

The Institute for Information and Communications Policy (IICP) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) established the Committee on AI Economy under the Conference toward AI Network Society in January 2019 and has been studying AI from an economic point of view since then.
Recently, the Committee on AI Economy issued a report entitled the Committee on AI Economy 2020 Report, and MIC has decided to open it to the public accordingly.

1. Background

MIC’s IICP has been holding the Conference toward AI Network Society (chaired by SUDOH Osamu, Professor at the Faculty of Global Informatics, Chuo University and Project Professor at the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, University of Tokyo) since October 2016 with the participation of experts from industry, academia, and citizens to comprehensively examine social, economic, ethical, and legal issues for promoting AI networking in society as a whole.
The IICP established the AI Economic Review Committee (chaired by IWATA Kazumasa, President, Japan Center for Economic Research) under the Conference toward AI Network Society in January 2019 to examine what kind of socio-economics should be pursued by promoting AI social implementation, basic policies, and ideal medium- to long-term strategies. The Committee on AI Economy issued a report entitled the Committee on AI Economy Report in May 2019. Based on this report, the Committee on AI Economy conducted a further study and has published the Committee on AI Economy 2020 Report, and MIC has decided to open it to the public accordingly.
