July 28, 2020 Official Announcement of Result of Occasional Survey on Actual Radio Spectrum Usage to Meet 5G and Other New Radio Wave Usage Needs and Appeal for Opinions for Drafted Evaluation Result
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) announces the result of an occasional survey on actual radio spectrum usage to meet the needs of the fifth-generation mobile communications system (5G) and other new radio wave usage.
Furthermore, MIC has drafted an evaluation result of the survey on actual radio spectrum usage and will make an appeal for opinions from Wednesday, July 29 through Tuesday, September 1, 2020, on the draft.
1. Purpose of survey and evaluations
MIC surveyed actual radio spectrum usage to meet the needs for 5G and other new radio wave usage for the comprehensive and systematic promotion of measures that contribute to the practical usage of radio waves. Here, the practical usage is exemplified by advanced frequency sharing with existing wireless systems in frequency bands as candidates for 5G use.
2. Survey outline
1. Subject of survey
Frequency bands* for which additional frequency allocation for 5G is expected, and are established by the national government, local governments, and the private sector as of April 1, 2019
2.3 GHz band, 5.8/5.9 GHz band, 24 GHz band, 26 GHz band, 28 GHz band, 38 GHz band, and 40 GHz band
2. Items and method of survey
Survey items and method specified in Article 5 of the Ministerial Ordinance (MIC Ordinance No. 110 of 2002) for the Survey on Actual Radio Spectrum Usage
3. Officially announced document
Result of Occasional Survey on Actual Radio Spectrum Usage to Meet 5G and Other New Radio Wave Usage Needs
4. Procedure of appeal for opinions
Drafted Result of Occasional Survey on Actual Radio Spectrum Usage to Meet 5G and Other New Radio Wave Usage Needs
2. Period of appeal for opinions
From Wednesday, July 29, and no later than Tuesday, September 1, 2020 (Submission of opinions by mail must also arrive no later than the deadline date.)
5. Future plans
With consideration of the result of the appeal for opinions, MIC will promptly make an inquiry to the Radio Regulatory Council about the evaluation result of the occasional survey on actual radio spectrum usage and announce the result.
