August 12, 2020 Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure―Appel for Opinions on Draft Summary of Phase-I Discussions

The Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure (chaired by OHASHI Hiroshi, Professor, Graduate School of Economics, Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo) has recently drafted a summary of phase-I discussions. Accordingly, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, August 13 through Friday, September 11, 2020.

1. Overview

Since Friday, April 3, 2020, the Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure has been conducting a specialized and intensive study on broadband infrastructure centering on institutional aspects to respond to the diversification of services essential to people’s lives and to ensure sustainable provision of those services.
At the 5th meeting held on August 7, 2020, the Study Group drafted the summary of phase-I discussions. Accordingly, MIC has decided to make this appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, August 13 through Friday, September 11, 2020.

3. Matters to remember

1. Handling of opinions

After the termination of the appeal period, MIC will open all opinions submitted. In that case, MIC may announce each submitter’s name (corporate name if the submitter is a corporate body) and information on other attributes (each individual’s occupation or type of work) as well. A submitter who wishes to remain anonymous is requested to indicate so in writing when submitting the opinion.
Please be reminded that MIC is not able to give any specific answer to opinions submitted.

4. Future plans

With consideration of the result of the opinions, the summary of phase-I discussions will be finalized.
