September 9, 2020 Survey related to Use of Fifth Generation Mobile Communications System

To grasp the user needs of the 5th generation mobile communications system (5G), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will conduct a survey from today through Friday, September 25, 2020.

1. Background purpose

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has been making efforts in sequence toward the early spread and deployment of 5G. These efforts included MIC’s approval to a plan on establishing specific base stations for the introduction of the 5th generation mobile communications system (5G) on April 10, 2019, and institutional development to introduce 5G to the frequency bands of the 4th generation mobile communication system (4G).
Toward the further spread of 5G, MIC will conduct this survey to grasp the needs related to the use of 5G.

2. Positioning of this survey

This survey is a primary survey to grasp the needs related to the spread of 5G.
Responses to this survey are voluntary and responding to this survey will not limit the availability or content of future required applications. Furthermore, the use of 5G will not be permitted by responding to this survey.
MIC will examine and accept 5G applications after necessary institutional development, including the establishment of guidelines following laws and regulations as a result of the appeal for opinions.

Those who have plans to popularize 5G mobile communications systems

From Wednesday, September 9 through Friday, September 25, 2020

5. Future plans

MIC plans to summarize and announce the results of this survey and use them as a reference for future system development.
