September 18, 2020 Appeal for Opinions on Basic Policy on Facilitating the Use of Telephones by the Hearing Impaired

Under the provisions of Article 7, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Facilitating the Use of Telephones by the Hearing Impaired, etc. (Act No. 53 of 2020), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication (MIC) has drafted a basic policy on facilitating the use of telephones by the hearing impaired, etc. Accordingly, MIC will make an appeal for opinions on the draft from Saturday, September 19 through Monday, October 19, 2020.

1. Background

The Act on Facilitating the Use of Telephones by the Hearing Impaired, etc. shall come into effect from the date specified by a Cabinet Order within the range not exceeding nine months from the day of promulgation (June 12, 2020).
With the enforcement of the Act, MIC has drafted the basic policy on facilitating the use of telephones by hearing-impaired people, etc. under the provisions of Article 7, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Facilitating the Use of Telephones by the Hearing Impaired, etc. Accordingly, MIC has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft.

4. Future plans

Considering submitted opinions, MIC will establish a basic policy on the facilitation of telephone use by the hearing impaired, etc.
