September 30, 2020 Appeal for Target Organizations related to Support for Local 5G Introduction Planning

To promote studies on utilizing local 5G, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) gives support for companies and organizations planning to introduce local 5G. In this connection, MIC will make several appeals in sequence for target companies and organizations.

1. Purpose

MIC is promoting efforts toward the introduction of local 5G, which allows various entities, such as companies and local governments, to build their 5G systems flexibly according to their individual needs. For the introduction of local 5G, the introducer must understand the features of local 5G sufficiently and study various matters. Such matters include the clarification of specific utilization methods of local 5G for problem solutions, the background and the purpose of introducing local 5G to each company or organization, what you are aiming for after the introduction, and the implementation items and schedule for the introduction of local 5G. Therefore, in this project, MIC will support companies and other organizations’ study on planning the introduction of local 5G.

2. Supported organizations

Organizations (including joint-stock companies, partnerships, limited partnerships, limited liability companies, etc.), specified non-profit corporations, prefectures, municipalities, public organizations, and similar organizations that are planning or considering the introduction of local 5G

3. Support

MIC provides consultations*1*2 (a maximum of six consultations for approximately eight weeks in web meetings and other forms) to formulate local 5G introduction plans of companies and organizations selected from applicants.

    This project does not provide subsidies or funds for local 5G development and implementation.

    Introduction plans on local 5G are to be formulated by each applicant, and the applicant must make efforts toward the necessary work and study associated with the formulation.

    Support may be terminated depending on the progress of implementation planning and the decline of applicants.

4. Appeal schedule

First appeal period Monday, October 5 through Sunday, October 18, 2020 (up to 20 organizations)
Second appeal period Monday, November 2 through Sunday, November 15, 2020 (up to 10 organizations)
Third appeal period Monday, November 30 through Sunday, December 13, 2020 (up to 10 organizations)
Fourth appeal period Tuesday, January 12 through Sunday, January 25, 2020 (up to 10 organizations)

5. Selection of target support organizations

MIC will select target support organizations according to the schedule described in 4. The Secretariat will individually inform each company and organization applicant of the selection results.

    In the case of a large number of applicants, MIC will select them with consideration of the balance between regions and each municipality size.
