January 8, 2021 Public Appeal for Organizations to Implement Digital Interference Countermeasure Project Etc.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will make a public appeal from Friday, January 8, through Monday, February 8, 2021, for organizations to make environmental improvements and provide support for the smooth migration of conventional broadcasting to digital terrestrial broadcasting (under MIC’s Digital Interference Countermeasure Project) and for organizations to implement MIC’s Environmental Development Project on Satellite Broadcasting reception under a fiscal 2021 budget.

Analog terrestrial television broadcasting has ended nationwide by March 31, 2012 and has migrated to terrestrial digital broadcasting. However, terrestrial digital broadcasting reception failures continue to occur in some areas due to the abnormal propagation of radio waves. It is necessary to take permanent measures to eliminate this problem.
Furthermore, there is concern that the intermediate frequency used for new 4K/8K satellite broadcasting, which started in December 2018, will affect other wireless systems. Therefore, it is necessary to modify reception equipment for basic satellite broadcasting and establish an appropriate reception environment. Therefore, MIC has decided to make this public appeal for organizations implementing the Digital Interference Countermeasure Project and those implementing the Digital Interference Countermeasure Project under the fiscal 2021 budget.
MIC will make this appeal before the fiscal 2021 budget bill passes the Diet so that eligible organizations can start the project as soon as possible. Therefore, it should be kept in mind that the implementation of the project and its contents and financial source for the project are subject to change according to the passage of the budget bill.
