January 15, 2021 Signing of the First Comprehensive Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Information and Communications Technology with the Ministry of Communications of the Republic of India

TAKEDA Ryota, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, has today signed the first comprehensive Memorandum of Cooperation in information and communications technology with the Minister of Communications, the Republic of India (hereafter referred to as “India”).

1. Background of Signing the Memorandum of Cooperation

To promote stronger cooperation in information and communications technology, Japan and India repeatedly discussed the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation (hereafter referred to as the “MoC”) in the field of information and communications from last year.
Recently, both countries agreed on further strengthening their cooperation in information and communications technology, and accordingly, TAKEDA Ryota, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and H.E. Mr. Shri Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications, signed the MoC.

2. Outline of the MoC

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Communications of India have agreed on technical development cooperation in 5G and submarine cables, human resource development in cybersecurity, and the promotion of dialogue between industries in both countries, including topics on startups.
This MoC is the first one between the two countries to include these comprehensive contents.

3. Future plans

MIC will deepen the cooperative relationship based on the MoC with India in information and communications technology and promote an overseas expansion of ICT infrastructure.
