January 25, 2021 Result of First ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting with Japan

Japan and the 10 ASEAN member countries hold the First ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting with Japan* (ADGMIN+Japan) virtually on January 22, 2021.
Mr. SHINTANI Masayoshi, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, attended the meeting as the head of Japan’s delegation and proposed the ASEAN-Japan ICT Work Plan 2021 on cooperation and collaboration in the ICT field between Japan and ASEAN for the next one-year period which received unanimous approval in the meeting.

2. Summary of meeting results

    Mr. Shintani, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and H.E. Mr. Dato’ Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Communications and Multimedia of Malaysia, co-chaired the meeting.

    The ASEAN-Japan ICT Work Plan 2021 was proposed by Japan and approved by all the attendees which shows cooperation and collaboration measures between Japan and ASEAN such as 5G, local 5G, and cybersecurity. The work plan will contribute to the achievement of the vision of the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 which was newly formulated by ASEAN (as successor to the ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2020) to set the policy goals in the ICT field for the next five years.

    MIC will continue working on strengthening cooperation with ASEAN in line with the foregoing work plan.
