January 29, 2021 Launch of JPD3 and Recruitment of Members

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will launch the Japan Platform for Driving Digital Development (JPD3), based on MIC’s Communications Overseas Expansion Action Plan 2020 (established in April 2021). JPD3 will promote an overseas expansion of Japanese digital technology in collaboration with private companies, related ministries, and agencies.
Telecommunications carriers, ICT-related companies, trading companies, consultant companies, financial institutions, etc. that are or will be working on an overseas expansion of digital technology are encouraged to participate proactively in this platform.

1. JPD3

MIC has been promoting overseas expansion in various fields, including ICT, mail, firefighting, statistics, administrative consultation systems, and local autonomy. In April 2020, MIC formulated the Communications Overseas Expansion Action Plan 2020. This plan stipulates MIC’s basic policy of planning on actions to be taken for overseas expansion promotion in the future, thereby aiming to realize MIC’s even more organic cooperation with various stakeholders, including related organizations inside and outside the government.
Based on this plan, to seamlessly support the flow of overseas expansion from information gathering and team formation to project formation of Japanese companies working on an overseas expansion of digital technology, MIC has decided to launch the Japan Platform for Driving Digital Development (JPD3).

2. Expected participants in JPD3

The utilization of digital technology is advancing in various fields. Furthermore, the cooperation of various parties is required to form the project. Therefore, this platform recruits a wide range of public and private members. MIC expects the participation of Japanese companies that work on an overseas expansion of digital technology, including telecommunications carriers, ICT vendors, ICT startup companies, trading companies, consultant companies, and financial institutions. MIC also expects that related ministries, agencies, and organizations will participate.
