October 1, 2021 Results of the Japan-India Intergovernmental Consultation and Public-Private Workshop in the field of 5G

On September 29 and 30, 2021, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) held a Japan-India intergovernmental Consultation and public-private workshop in the field of 5G online along with the Ministry of Communications of India and other organizations. SASAKI Yuji, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination (International Affairs), and interested members, including those of organizations concerned and ICT-related companies, attended from Japan. During the conference, the parties concerned discussed a wide range of agenda items related to 5G and Beyond 5G (6G), including security and openness related to 5G, and confirmed the maintenance of mutual understanding between the two countries.

Indian side: Mr. A K Tiwari, Member (Technology) under the Digital Communications Commission, and interested members, including members of the Ministry of Communications, the National Security Council Secretariat, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, organizations concerned, and ICT-related companies

4. Results of the conference

MIC, the Ministry of Communications of India, and the parties concerned shared information on the status and future direction of 5G-related initiatives in both countries, including security and openness, government procurement, taxation, spectrum allocation and utilization, R&D support, and Beyond 5G (6G).
Furthermore, at the public-private workshop, the members of the ICT-related companies shared their services using 5G and their efforts to realize Beyond 5G (6G) and exchanged opinions.
MIC and the Ministry of Communications of India have agreed to continue taking the lead in deepening mutual understanding.
