October 5, 2021 Appeal for Opinions on Fourth Draft Interim Report from Study Group for Proper Dealing with Telecommunications Business Cyber-attacks

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) has been holding the Study Group for Proper Dealing with Telecommunications Business Cyber-attacks (Chaired by SHIZUME Motoki, professor at the Department of Law, Gakushuin University) in order to discuss how telecommunications carriers can properly respond to increasingly sophisticated and complex cyber-attacks.
Recently, the Study Group drafted its fourth interim report, and the MIC has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft report from Wednesday, October 6 through Thursday, November 4, 2021.

Fourth Draft Interim Report from Study Group for Proper Dealing with Telecommunications Business Cyber-attacks

2. Overview

This study group has been discussing an appropriate response to cyber-attacks in the telecommunications industry to enable telecommunications carriers to respond appropriately against cyber-attacks that are becoming more sophisticated and complex with the development of information and communications technology, considering the secrecy of communications. In this connection, MIC has decided to make an appeal for opinions on the draft report from the study group.

No later than Thursday, November 4, 2021 (Opinions submitted by postal mail must also arrive no later than the deadline date.)

5. Matters to be kept in mind

Please be reminded that MIC is not able to give any specific answer to opinions submitted.

6. Future plans

Based on the results of the appeal for opinions, the Fourth Report will be finalized and released.
