October 7, 2021 Appeal for Opinions on Draft Report on Ideal State of Telecommunications Number System to Create Diversified Services in Digital Society

The Telecommunications Business Policy Committee (chaired by MORIKAWA Hiroyuki, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo) of the Information and Communications Council drafted a report at its meeting yesterday. This draft report was on the ideal state of the telecommunications number system to create diversified services in the digital society.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) will make an appeal for opinions on the draft report from Friday, October 8 through Monday, November 8, 2021.

1. Background

The Information and Communications Council received an inquiry from the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications on May 19, 2021, regarding the ideal state of the telecommunications number system to create diversified services in the digital society. In light of this, the Telecommunications Business Policy Committee and the Telecommunications Number Policy Subcommittee have been studying the issue.
The Telecommunications Business Policy Committee drafted the report at its 59th meeting held yesterday. Therefore, MIC has decided to make this appeal for opinions on this draft report.

3. Future plans

The Information and Communications Council will submit a report to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications around December 2021, after reviewing the draft report based on opinions received.
