October 8, 2021 Results of Appeal for Opinions on Draft Interim Report of Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure

The Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure (chaired by OHASHI Hiroshi, Dean, the Graduate School of Public Policy, the University of Tokyo) drafted an interim report. Accordingly, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) made an appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, July 1 through Friday, July 30, 2021. In this regard, MIC has decided to open the opinions submitted and the study group’s views on the opinions to the public.

1. Background

Since Friday, April 3, 2020, the Study Group on the Ideal State of Broadband Infrastructure has been conducting a specialized and intensive study on broadband infrastructure centered on institutional aspects to respond to the diversification of services essential to people’s lives and ensure sustainable provision of those services.
At its 13th meeting, the study group drafted an interim report. Accordingly, MIC made the appeal for opinions on the draft from Thursday, July 1 through Friday, July 30, 2021.
In response to the opinions submitted, a draft of the study group’s views was reported at the 14th meeting held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, where the draft was approved. Therefore, MIC opens the results of the appeal for opinions and the study group’s views on the opinions to the public.

2. Results of appeal for opinions

As a result of making an appeal for opinions from Thursday, July 1 through Friday, July 30, 2021, 18 opinions were submitted.
